Wednesday 3rd December 2008 Update

Hi mates,

I hear its not that great over there with snow, ice and fog- while I sit here in 30 degree heat. I've kept myself pretty busy since returning and am now in the sticker business. I have an x-ray on my shoulder this week and that will give me the all clear to get back into training. I've had great years at Glasgow and will miss the team, sponsors and supporters but I felt that it was time to move on especially if I want to follow my ambition of riding regularly in Poland on a Sunday. As always at this time of the season there are conversations with clubs going on so hopefully something will be settled soon.

Monday 26th October 2008 Glasgow Schools Speedway Graduation Night

6.45pm, Monday 26 October 2008, Rangers Support Centre, Broomloan House, Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow G51 2XD

Speedway challenge competition winners

In May, the Determined to Succeed team from Glasgow City Council launched a the 2008 Speedway Challenge initiative and since then 300 children from twelve different primary schools in Glasgow have taken part.

The scheme has given the youngsters the opportunity to be involved in language, maths and ICT tasks based on speedway. The children learned how to use digital cameras, digital video cameras and digital recorders. These were then used to make electronic posters using Microsoft Publisher. In the new term the children will use their recordings to produce internet radio shows

Their final posters were entered into a competition – the winners being announced on Monday 26th October at a special graduation night.

Gary Condie, Enterprise Education Officer for Determined to Succeed said today: “This exciting venture has been great fun for the youngsters and has see the sport of speedway used as a way to motivate pupils, increase their self esteem and become more effective learners – but above all raise achievement.

“The Poster competition has been very close and the work the youngsters have produced has been wonderful and far beyond all our expectations.”

Australian speedway riders Trent Leverington, Robert Kziesak, Mitchell Davey and Shane Parker who have met the children at workshops over the last few months were at the presentation on Monday evening.

The children showed their posters and gave their 5-minute Presentation to the riders, sponsors, parents and teachers who come along on Monday.

The winners from St Philomena’s Primary and St Martha’s Primary received PSPs from sponsors FSM Outdoor Advertising, Buildbase and the STARs group. The runners up representing, Ruchill AU, St Charles Primary, St Josephs Primary and St Bartholomew’s Primary took home MP3 players sponsored. St Martha’s Primary and St Charles Primary schools win £50 each from John Lewis.

The children received their prizes from Australian Riders Trent Leverington, Robert Ksiezak, Mitchell Davey and Shane Parker who were all very impressed with the Children’s work and knowledge of Speedway.

The riders and sponsors were thanked for their help and support and the presented them with their own certificates and a momento of the season.

Monday 6th October Statement from Robert

Hi Mates,

Thanks for the kind wishes after my crash on Sunday. I have a broken collarbone and will go back to the fracture clinic on Tuesday to see if they need to operate. If it’s a normal break it will be 6 to 8 weeks to fix. There is no rush anyway to get back on a bike as my season is over. I return home in early November but no need to rush to be fit for any specific date as I will probably just be doing local events back home.

See you on Sunday

Robert

Wednesday 17th September 2008 before the World Juniot Team Championship

Hi folks,

I write this just as I set off for the trip to Holsted for the World Under 21s. I spent the last three days building and rebuilding all my gear. Much had to be straightened and fixed after the last week’s heavy schedule I’m absolutely knackered. I’ll pick up Danny and Graeme and they can sleep as we travel to Newcastle for the ferry on Wednesday. I’m looking forward to resting for the 15hour crossing to Amsterdam as they can take over for the seven hour drive to Denmark. They’ll enjoy the rest as I expect they could be busy over the next few days.

We have practice on Saturday and will test all the bikes before Troy, Chris, Ty and Kozza take on the Danes, Poles and Swedes on Sunday afternoon. My team mates for Belle Vue are well represented with Billy riding for Sweden and Patrick for Denmark I hear that there are some changes with Thomas Johanson and Robert Kasprazak out.

See you for the Classic next Sunday

Robert

Sunday 14th September 2008 Glasgow v Berwick Bandits

What looked a comfortable match on paper didn’t turn out that way on the day. Tigers won by 7 with Trent and Shane top scoring. Berwick owed the closeness to their guest Tomasz Piszcz who scored an 18pt maximum including a 6 pointer. Trent scored 13+1 from 6. Robert had one victory in his 7+1 from 4 losing twice to maximum man Piszcz

Sunday 7th September 2008 David McAllans Farewell Meeting

After the riders had met their fans and sponsors, just as the official photos were being taken the rain began to fall. The riders got stuck in and put on a performance fit to celebrate the career of David. With sixty children in the stadium from the previous weeks school visits Trent did not let his new fans down top scoring on 10+4 dropping his only point to Makovsky representing Edinburgh. Robert however had a meeting to forget. After gating in his race he was passed by the over enthusiastic debutant Jeremia Thelaus who then lost it as they crossed the start line, collected the fence before finishing in the middle of the track. Robert following closely behind collected the fallen bike and went over the handlebars landing awkwardly on his hands and shoulders. With the bike and the bike that Jermia was riding (Ross Brady’s) now severely damaged and both riders pretty second hand they both withdrew from the meeting. Full scores on David’s website

Saturday 6th September 2008 Rye House off

After last nights washout in Edinburgh Robert was due to guest for the Reading Racers at Rye House tonight. But the weather has also hit that meeting saving Robert a very long Journey. Fingers crossed the weather is better for David McAllans meeting at Ashfield on Sunday

Wednesday 3rd September 2008

August has been pretty busy and as we get to the end of the season September looks the same. As well as league matches for the Tigers and David’s farewell meeting I also have a trip to Holsted with the Aussie U21 team on the 21st.

I will also be up and down the M6 again as Belle Vue's number 8 it looks as if I’ll be riding in their end of season meetings. Nick Simmons was released and then new signing Stan Buzra has unfortunately been injured so they have said that there will be no replacements. There are only about 4 meetings to go.

It felt good last week. Thought I was on for a full house but missed the start in Heat 15 and that was it. Had a good meeting on Wednesday with Belle Vue but got put into the fence by Nils Iversen in my second ride. I went on to score 8 but was pretty sore on Thursday. I’d been for physio so would have been OK for the meeting on Sunday.

The diary is pretty full for the next 7 or 8 days and Trent and I will be seeing plenty of road way. Friday its Edinburgh, Saturday guesting at Rye house, Sunday David’s farewell meeting. Monday Belle Vue, Tuesday off, Wednesday off I think but that may change, Thursday Swindon and Friday Somerset for the under 23s.

Hopefully see you through at Edinburgh and at Ashfield on Sunday

Robert

Monday 25th August 2008 Scunthorpe v Tigers

The Tigers travelled to Scunthorpe for their first visit to the town in years. The Tigers had practiced there in March but on returning they found the track to be completely different. Lee celebrated his 30th Birthday with a fall, 3rd and a retirement. Shane again let the way with 17 +1 form 6. Scunthorpe won 54-39.

Robert took 3 second places before ending his afternoon with a win and a Tigers5-1 with Shane in heat 15.

Full report and scorecard can be found on the Tigers website

Sunday 24th August 2008 Tigers v Stoke Potters

The tigers bounced back from a disappointing week with a comfortable victory over the Stoke Potters. For the first time since April the Tigers tracked their own seven riders. Robert moved to 1 with Shane at 3 and Trent at 6. Stoke brought in track specialist Ryan Fisher from the Monarchs to guest for Lee Complin but he didn’t trouble the score chart with just 3 seconds places from 5 rides. Up to the final race the Tigers had three riders on maximums. After heat 15 Trent with a full 15 and Shane with a full 12 took home maximums.

Robert took the scalps of Fisher (twice), Moore (twice) and Ben Barker once on his way to 12+1. His only defeat coming in heat 15 where he missed the start after an unsatisfactory first attempt when barker jumped the gate

Full report and racecard

Thursday 21st August 2008 Redcar v Tigers

Tigers put up a better showing at Redcar. Losing 55-38. However most of the scoring was made up by Shane who scored 15 and guest Claus Jacobsen in to replace the injured Josh.

Wednesday 20th August 2008 Kings Lynn v Tigers

The Tigers travelled to kings Lynn boosted by the return of Shane parker but weakened at reserve by the Injury to Josh Grojchonek. He was replaced by Jerran hart from Newcastle. The team struggled on the pacy track with Kings Lynn running out 61 – 29 winners. Shane top scoring on 12 which included a tactical win and an engine failure.

Robert had 3 seconds in his 7 points. He made the gate on a very slick surface in heat one but was passed by Doolan. In his next he appeared to be struggling with his bike and Kings Lynn took a 5-1. In heat 13 he missed the gate but chased after Harrison to pass him.

Sunday 17th August 2008 Tigers v Monarchs

Today’s much anticipated match against the Edinburgh Monarchs was called off early morning after a week of very heavy rain had the left the track difficult. With more rain forecast the promoters took the decision to postpone. Not for the first time the forecasters got it wrong and Glasgow and the surrounding area had one of the sunniest Summer days.

Sunday 10th August 2008 Tigers v Sheffield tigers

Glasgow just failed to win a meeting which had as they say just about everything. Rain and more rain, crashes, exclusions more crashes, destroyed fence and a fight in the pits. All in all it took three and a half hours to complete. Glasgow finished with 5 riders with Lee Dicken withdrawn and then Trent involved in one of the most horrible crashes witnessed at Ashfield. Trent and Ricky Ashworth appeared to lock handlebars as they went up the back straight. With both unable to turn or get off they slammed into the fence with Trent landing in the safety zone. After lengthy treatment Trent was taken to hospital although he told the rest he was fine. After 40 minutes the fence was rebuilt and the match resumed.

Josh top scored with 16+4, Robert with 10 and Mitchell with 7+1. Without the usual high scoring guest, lees injury, Anders out of sorts and Trent’s usual contribution the team ended up losing by 2- 44-46

Roberts 10 was made up of a win, 3 seconds and a third. His meeting got off to a very wet and muddy start as he was dumped in the fence on the first bend in heat 3.

He was beaten by the unbeaten at the time Ricky Ashworth and three times by the unbeaten Compton who the number 3 comes up against in heat 3, 12 and 15.

Sunday 3rd August 2008 Tigers v Somerset Rebels

Top of the table Somerset were dispatched on Sunday with another powerful performance from the Tigers. After torrential rain all day in the Springburn area fans were amazed to see the track being watered before the meeting. After an initial set back in heat 1 losing a 5-1 the tigers then won 9 races in the 51 39 victory. Josh led the way with 16+2 who was ably supported by Trent and Robert.

Robert got back into the groove after a disappointing outing on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday and following up from his 14 last week. His 11+2 included 3 wins and 2 seconds. Robert was only beaten by one Rebel on the day and that was Jason Doyle who top scored for the Rebels with 16points. The strength of his pairing with Trent again showed today with a 5-1, 4-2 and a 3-3. Another strong Ashfield performance from Robert

Match card and report on Tigers website (Glasgow Tigers Website)

Tuesday 29th July 2008 Isle of Wight Islanders v Tigers

A good performance on the island by the Tigers- many seeing the track for the first time. A 51 – 42 defeat was better than many predicted. Trent scoring 15, Josh 11+1 and Lee 9.  However there was not the back up for the heat leaders with Robert being helped off his bike by Holder in his 3rd ride and missing his 4th ride with a banged elbow

Report on speedway updates

Monday 28th July 2008 Reading Racers v Tigers

Glasgow Tigers travelled to Smallmead for the last time hoping to continue Sundays form. An eight point defeat in the old days would have got Tigers a bonus but in this season it only counts as a loss. Top scoring from Magnus and Josh kept the Tigers in it as the other struggled. The turning point was heat 7 when Glasgow were on an 8-1 before Mills bailed out while passing Trent- referee excluded Trent and in the rerun it was a3-4 for  the Racers. An 8-1 from Robert and Trent would have narrowed the gap to 2.

With many of the Tigers seeing the track for the first time it was a good score. Robert got 5 from 4 rides and ended up on Anders bike as he was losing power.

Report on Speedway update

Sunday 27th July 2008 Tigers v Reading Racers

Glasgow Tigers winning record around Saracen Park stretched to 3 with an easier than expected victory over the Reading Racers. With Anders gaining a ‘real’ average changes had to be made to the team with Anders moving to number 5 and Robert reunited with Trent at 3 and 4. Everyone was paid for at least a win with Tigers winning 12 of the heats in a 60 -32 victory. Trent took a magnificent 15 point maximum.

Lee and Robert were only beaten by Doolan

Saturday 26th July 2008 Message from Robert

Hi mates, I was very disappointed with the U21s in Croatia. It’s a long way to go and come back with nothing. The track was rough but it was the same for everyone. After a first race victory, I slipped off in the second then blew my best engine in the third. Two trips abroad and blow 2 of my best engines. I now have two engines to be rebuilt and nothing to show for it. After finishing with 5 points I had a 2 hour drive to Vienna for the flight home expecting a good performance against Mildenhall. While my best bikes drove through Europe my third bike was set up for Ashfield. However as you could see I couldn’t get the bike to settle and was lifting out of the gate. In one race the throttle even jammed open. The team was superb with Trent just missing his max.

Hopefully by now one of my best engines is back from the tuner ahead of a busy week. Hope we'll see some of you at Reading or the Isle of Wight

 Robert

Sunday 20th July Tigers v Mildenhall Tigers

The Tigers from Glasgow made it two in a row with a comfortable win over Mildenhall. Surprisingly no maximums for glasgow  although many felt there would be a couple when they started with  what looked like two 5-1s before Mitch hit the bump on the 3rd bend. Stoney Anders and Trent still held on to their maximum hopes after 2 rides but only Trent kept his until heat 15. Good starts and powerful first bends took him to 12 out of 12 having beaten all their riders, However in heat 15 he was out gated by a rejuvenated Ricky Ashworth who had scored 1 from 2 rides before reeling off 15 from his last. Robert had a difficult meeting. His best machinery was still in a van being driven across Europe. On older machinery he had three 2nds and fall in his 6 points

Thursday 17th July 2008 Message from Robert before leaving for World U21 Semi in Croatia

Hi mates,

Everything has been going well recently until last Sunday. It all goes back to the U21 team semi at Gustrow when I blew up my favourite engine. I really struggled against Rye as I tried to get my other engines going but it wasn’t the same. 4 points was not enough but it was a great result for the team against a good Rye House team. I’ve been on the track since to get the engines dialed in. Hopefully they are good now.

My mechanic Graham and a friend from the south, set off today in the van with all the bikes for Croatia for the World U21 Semi on Saturday night. I’ll fly out on Friday. Practice is Saturday lunch time with the meeting at night. All I need is 5 good starts and a bit of luck.

I’m back on Sunday morning ready for Mildenhall while my team will face the long drive home in my FSM van.

Thanks for all the support and kind wishes on Easy Tiger and on Sunday at the track. See you.

Robert

Sunday 13th July 2008 Tigers v Rye House Rockets

After nearly a month away from Ashfield because of the GP, southern tour and the weather. the tigers returned home triumphant after their victory at Mildenhall. they faced a very difficult task against a Tai Woofinden inspired team including track specialists Stefan Edberg and Chris Neath and also 3pt sensation Robert Mear who is potentailly the most improved 3pointer. Unusually the Tigers took a 10 -2 lead after Stoney and Lee followed by Josh and Mitch took 5-1s. By heat 6 it was 14 points until Tai was given the B&W helmet . Rockets took a 7-2. Closest the Rockets got was 5 until trent won the last 2 including a superb win over woofinden ending his maximum hopes. The team did superbly and for once Robert was lowest scorer with 4 from his 4 rides. He blew his best engine in Germany and with the poor weather has been unable to get onto a dry track to get it dialled in. Struggled today but will have it sorted after sessions at the track this week.

Tuesday 24th June 2008

Hi mates,

Another busy week and just grabbing a quick break to update you. I got one ride for Torun on Friday night, expected to get replaced by Chris holder. It’s a great experience working with Ryan, Hans, Chris, Weislaw and Karol. Once I get my Polish equipment sorted out and more time on the track I’m sure I’ll get more rides.

On Sunday the U21s rode well in Germany to qualify for the final. We lost Troy but Aaron, and Kozza stepped up and scored well. I was pleased with my points. I had two wins and then started losing power in my fourth ride. In my fifth it blew up completely. That was my best engine. Why does it always have to be your best engine that blows when I was going so well? Back to the drawing board and will need to get another engine dialed in as I’ll be back in Birmingham riding for the Brummies on Wednesday before going to Poland for the Polish Under 21 team on Thursday.

Pity we had two rain offs at Workington and Ashfield but at least I didn’t miss any matches. Hopefully see some of you around Cardiff or Mildenhall this weekend. Looking forward to pulling on the Stripes again in Mildenhall and back in Glasgow on Thursday for the rematch against Stoke as long as the wet stuff stays away.

Tuesday 18th June 2008 Robert in Poland

Hi mates, thought it was time I posted to the website. I'm now in Poland having flown out here. Today was a practice session to test a few things. I have a meeting on Friday for my club and then will fly up to Frankfurt for the U21 World team match on Sunday. I'll then come back here to sort out some machinery. It's a pity I'm missing two meetings for Glasgow but Im looking forward to riding with the Oz U21s. I'll be back home next week in time for the trip to Cardiff and Mildenhall. Thanks for all the support and I look forward to seeing some of you in Cardiff or Mildenhall.

Sunday 15th June 2008 Tigers v Birmingham Brummies

Another inconsistant performance from the Tigers. While the Stoney score 11 points and the reserves scored scrongly the the majority of the team struggled as the Tigers fell to yet another home defeat going down 40 - 53 . with Mitchell winning the reserve races and Josh making an earlier comeback tigers fans were expecting more.

The one shining light was Robert looking the most confident hes ever been on his home track. Once ahead he rode a controlled line to win comfortably. He hadan early win, beating Jason lyons and 2 seconds. He also donned the balck and white helmet against Tully and watson and gated beatifully from the gate to take the six points.

robert has made heat 15 a fixture recently and has been unlucky in a few tyo finish last after his confidence boaosting Heat 15 last night at Stoke, today he was drawn with Guest Stoney against Watson and Harrison. Again he gated to win clearly to take the cheers from the crowd.

Richard Frost

RISING Aussie speedway star Robert Ksiezak is hoping to carve himself a future at Belle Vue.

The 21-year-old, who rides for Premier League Glasgow, has been signed as the Aces' No 8 for the season, which begins next month.

Adelaide-based Ksiezak will be on permanent standby to come into the Belle Vue team in case of injury while continuing his learning curve at the Scottish track.

Ksiezak, third in the recent Australian Under-21 championship, made a full transfer to Glasgow last year after riding for them on loan from Edinburgh.

Gordon Pairman, a promoter at Belle Vue and Glasgow, said at the time the Aces would have first refusal on Ksiezak when he was ready for the Elite League.

Pairman said: "It will be his fourth season in UK racing this year and the time is right for him to make the big breakthrough.

Qualified

"He did well in the Australian Under-21 event and, although he was 21 last month, he beat the cut-off to be eligible for the final and has now qualified for the World championship rounds.

"He was the only rider to beat winner Chris Holder, the new Australian champion, in the qualifying rounds of the Under-21 final. He was awarded third place overall after suffering an engine failure in the final.

"Belle Vue have got him in their sights as a rider for the future. He is an aggressive rider who has worked on the track at Glasgow to make extra money to finance his speedway."

Ksiezak, who also holds Polish nationality, will be at the Belle Vue Press and Practice day on March 17.
