In the Beginning

Robert started his racing career aged just 5, in 1992. His first taste of success came racing BMX. In a 10 year career Robert won:

3 Australian Championships - 1997, 2000 and 2001, finishing second in 1998.

5 South Australian Championships - 1997. 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2002. He didn’t compete in 2001 due to injury.

He came third in the 1998 World Championships and was a semi-finalist in 1999.

As well as racing BMX, Robert also tried his hand at other two wheel sports including cycle speedway. But they fell aside when he took to solo speedway in 1999. Robert started at his local junior track on 125cc bikes.

Robert started solo’s at the age of 13. His under 16 Speedway achievements include:

2 South Australian solo championships - 2001,2002. 

Australian Pairs Champion - 2003. Second in 2002.

Winner of the Troy Wyten Memorial and the Roy Bitmed Cup - 2002.

2 Laurie Hodgson Trophy wins - 2001, 2002.

Winner of Best and Fairest and Fastest Race - 2001, 2002

 

Robert moved up to Senior Solo’s, when he turned 16, in 2003. Competing on 500cc bikes his achievements to date include:

2003: 8th, South Australian Championship

2004: 2nd, U21 Australian Championship Winner, Wayville Solo Challenge.

2005: 7th, U21 Australian Championship. First Season of UK Speedway.

2006: Winner, Jack Young Trophy. Competed in Australian Championship.

2007: 3rd, U21, Australian Championship. Qualified for the World U21 Championship.
